The Hanns Seidel Foundation, a renowned political foundation, also supports culture and customs in accordance with their statutes. In doing so, the foundation fulfils the legacy of the late Mrs. Maria and Mr. Max Wutz from the year 1981, who donated their inheritance to cultivate and support Bavarian folk music. As trustee of this legacy, the Hanns Seidel Foundation grants cultural awards during the Days of Folk Music "for outstanding performance in the field of folk music".

The course of events of the Folk Music Days is also in accordance with the wishes of the founding couple as set forth in their will. In the morning, the folk musicians attend church services before singing folk songs together after lunch. After that, the award winning bands and singers present their songs. The official part is concluded with the performance of the Bavarian state anthem. Folk Music Days take place each spring in the educational center of Wildbad Kreuth in Upper Bavaria and each autumn in the educational center of the Banz Monastery in Upper Franconia.

In the course of each Folk Music Day, prizes are awarded to seven folk bands as well as to several volunteers for their efforts in supporting young folk musicians.
