Archive and Library

Archives for Christian-Social Politics

The Archives are mainly responsible for collecting and preserving material of the Christian-Social-Union regarding organisational and administrative structures, leading party figures, office bearers and parliamentary groups. Furthermore documents of previous conservatives groups and organisations affiliated to the conception of the party are a matter of interest as well.

Since the beginning of the eighties the archive was able to acquire documents, which reflect not only the history of the CSU but also the history of Bavaria and the Federal Republic after the Second World War. At present about 4,000 serial meter are kept in store. These records are dated from 1945 to present, but certain record groups go back to the Weimar Republic. The internal structure of the archive is based upon five main group

  • CSU party organisation from headquarters to local level including working groups and committees
  • Office Files and Personal Papers including those of former party leaders Josef Mueller, Hanns Seidel and Franz Josef Strauss as well as the Bavarian Prime Minister Alfons Goppel
  • CSU-Parliamentary Groups in the parliaments of Bavaria, Germany and Europe
  • Collections regarding personal related records, publications, pamphlets, advertising media, films and video tapes, periodicals etc.
  • Special collections of independent entities affiliated to the conceptions of the CSU such as the Hanns-Seidel-Stiftung, Adam-Stegerwald Kreis and Kontaktkreis Politik, Wissenschaft und Kunst

Political and Historical Specialist Library

The library is a reference library containing approximately 37.000 volumes. Publications from the areas of politics and political science, history and contemporary history as well as the contiguous sciences of state, jurisprudence, society and economics are collected and recorded. The main collection focus is on subjects concerning contemporary history, political education, parliamentarianism as well as political parties and movements.

Being a member of the Library Association of Bavaria (BVB) since 1995, the Political and Historical Specialist Library provides access to the database undefinedBVB OPAC as well. The magazine section consists of  more than 190 magazines concerning areas of culture, politics, international politics, economics, law, history and contemporary history.

Department of Information and Documentation

In this department, over 160 German and foreign daily and weekly newspapers, magazines, press and information services are constantly evaluated. A wide spectrum of subjects is covered, but the main focus is on current national and international politics as well as political and socio-political events in Bavaria.

Besides detailed queries, like the development of parties, issues on the role of the opposition, the relationship between the parties and the state, Islam, globalization, questions of national security, European integration, German foreign policy, international conflicts, developmental policy, social policy, family policy, educational policy, many more are covered and current matters as well as  topics are taken up.
