Relevance and importance of Monitoring & Evaluation
Objective: The workshops are organized to introduce the basics of designing the M&E system for the assessment of projects. The target group is the staff members of partners. In this particular case the staff was from YWCA who handle the rural and urban development projects.
Description: The workshops are usually divided into four sessions, where a quick recap and follow-up is made from the last workshop in the first session. The next session deals with qualitative methods for assessing project effectiveness followed by a session on communicating M&E data and its analysis. The last session is more practice oriented where it is discussed on how to put the learning into practice.
Detail discussions and focus is on the need for gathering qualitative information including exploring new information and its use, substantiating quantitative figures. The session also includes discussions on the three methods of gathering qualitative data i.e. focus group discussions, in-depth interviews and participatory leaning & assessment.
During one of the sessions a special topic on report writing is also covered. This is done in order to orient the participants on skills of report writing and presenting information gathered at different levels.
