Writing an Ethic code in the Municipality of Ussefiya

This year the Department of Education and the Mayor of Ussefiya launched a project that aims to create an ethic code for the municipality under the guidance of the Academy for Quality Government. The writing of the code is tailored to the specific needs of the community. This has become an important issue in the local press due to the last eruption of violence in the Carmel. Creating and implementing a code of conduct will help civil servants and elected officials to implement governmental ethics and good governance practices by turning it into an integral part of the behavior and daily routine. This will improve the ethical quality of the decision making process and actions of the local authorities who partake of the program benefiting all the population served by the local authority.

In addition to this, teaching ethics has also been an important component of the work of the Academy of Quality Government in the pre army academy for Druze students. The course on Ethics and Leadership, conducted by Ms. Zehava Chen of the AQG, promotes democratic values, civic education and the respect for rule of law. The course contains also a two day seminar in Jerusalem, which offers a visit to the Knesset and the High court. The goal of the course is to provide academic tools, nurture intellectual curiosity and to promote values and activities for good citizenship and activism in their communities.

Active involvement in society as well as promotion of excellency are important factors for strengthening local communities that are affected by violence and unemployment.
