“Puzakals” vs. German Team Holds Friendly Football Competition
As part of the Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF)’s partnership with Philippine institutions related to Justice Sector Reform, specifically the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Philippine National Police (PNP), the Foundation, in cooperation with the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) and the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) organized a football match between the “Puzakals”, the football team of the inmates of the National Bilibid Prison Reservation and the German football team of Manila, known as the “German Cranes”. The game was held last Saturday, 14 January 2012 at the football field outside of the main building of BuCor.
The sporting event was jointly mounted by HSF together with the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Manila and the German Club Manila, which also provided typical German food for lunch for the participants and spectators as well. Mr. Michael Weiss, the German coach of the Philippine national team, the “Azkals” volunteered as referee of the match.
Through the sport, the Filipino and German organizers demonstrated close relations between the two countries, as well as Germany’s and the HSF’s commitment to the rehabilitation program of the inmates and their eventual re-entry to society.
The friendly competition ended with the score of 2-0 in favor of the German team.
