Ghanaian Opposition Party decides to challenge Re-election of President in Court

Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama was announced winner of the Presidential elections on 07 December 2012, following a head-to-head race between the candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and his main opponent Nana Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). The elections have been generally labelled by national and international observers as fair, peaceful and transparent - an observation however not shared by the NPP.  The announcement of the party to challenge election results in court has sparked a wave of protests, challenging the democratic institutions of the country. Ghana Elections 2012: Plans for Free Secondary Education might leave the Poor worse off, if not balanced carefully

Ahead of the Presidential and Parliamentary elections taking place on December 7, Ghana’s educational system has become the focus of controversial discussions between the two major parties, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Whereas the NPP advocates for free secondary education for all from 2013, the NDC calls for the creation of sufficient educational infrastructure – such as the building of more schools and teacher training centers – prior to abolishing fees for secondary education. Project Coordination Team in West Mamprusi

Currently more and more people in Northern Ghana are facing risks related to climate change disasters like soil erosion and flooding. This means that families in one of the poorest regions in the country who depend on their farm products to survive, fight a long term struggle against desertification.
