In October 2011, the Hanns-Seidel-Foundation organised a three day high-level visit of members of the Constitutional Court of Togo, including its President Mr. Aboudou Assouma, with his counterparts at the Ghanaian Supreme Court. The Togolese Delegation was warmly welcomed by the Ghanaian Chief of Justice, Mrs. Georgina Theodora Wood, representatives of the Judicial Service Ghana and the Hanns-Seidel-Foundation. The main objective of the visit was to facilitate a discussion about the resolution of electoral disputes by the two countries’ judiciaries and to deliberate on issues related to justice delivery. In response to participating in this debate, the Chief Justice of Ghana issued a public statement announcing the production of a framework document, working towards ensuring the resolution of electoral disputes in Ghana. This announcement represents the positive spill-over effects of this meeting on civil society. Further regional dialogues between the West African countries Benin, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Mali, Niger and Togo are being planned.
