Modernization of UK higher education

Over the past two years, UK higher education has undergone what is arguably the most radical transformation in its entire history, culminating in a new system which came into effect in 2012. Some of the changes might bring about unintended negative consequences such as university closures and an erosion of the diversity that is currently a strength of the sector. There are also considerable fears over the affordability of the new loans system, the introduction of new student visa restrictions and the arrival of private providers on the scene.
